How to Change Your Audi's Oil

If you're interested in changing your oil, our Audi service center provides step-by-step directions on how to do so properly!

  • Park the vehicle on a leveled surface with the engine off and parking brake on. Raise the front of the vehicle if necessary.
  • Open the hood and locate the engine oil dipstick and remove.
  • Locate the Audi's engine oil pan underneath the car.
  • Find the drain plug and place the oil catch pan underneath. Make sure the catch pan is large enough to hold the volume of oil expected to drain out of the engine.
  • To loosen the drain plug, use a box end wrench or 6-pt socket. Carefully remove the plug by hand and watch the oil flow rapidly fro the hole. (Warning: oil may be hot.)
  • Wipe the oil pan, threads, and oil drain plug with a rag.
  • Locate oil filter, loosen the filter with an oil filter wrench, while allowing the catch pan to grab any remaining oil.
  • Lightly coat new oil on the gasket of the new oil filter so it will install smoothly. Turn the new oil filter in a clockwise direction.
  • Remove oil fill cap and place the correct amount of oil.
  • Start your Audi, let it run, and wait 30 seconds before visually inspecting underneath the car for leaks.
  • Lower the car back to the ground and check the oil's dipstick., adding more oil if needed.
